Overview

Swope Center for Career Advancement Swope Center for Career Advancement (SCCA) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the economic health of individuals, families and communities by creating the educational and economic opportunity needed to obtain and maintain employment in a family-supporting career. Its strategy places people at the center of an economic development model designed to broker partnerships and integrate resources for the purpose of meeting and advancing the workforce and business development needs of workers and employers within the Kansas City metropolitan area.

As a member company of Swope Community Enterprises, the Swope Center for Career Advancement has the following goals:

  • Create pathways to economic self-sufficiency by implementing a dual customer approach (individuals and employers) to workforce development which brokers partnerships and integrates resources.
  • Provide learning models that embrace life-long learning, the sharing and application of best practices, and the development of personal, leadership and career building skills.
  • Identify, create, and implement education and/or training models that succeed in preparing youth and adults for successful transitions from jobs to careers.

To accomplish these goals, Swope Center for Career Advancement seeks to:

  • Invest in excellent local career advancement training programs that will provide residents with the skills they need for successful career opportunities, long-term employment and family-supporting wages.
  • Bridge the gap between Kansas City’s low income, unemployed and underemployed workforce with educational institutions and the business community.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative partnerships with businesses, school districts, career centers, training agencies and community based organizations.
  • Advocate for local, regional and national policies related to education, workforce development, job training and employment opportunities.
  • Accelerate entrepreneurial opportunities.
